For new years we decided to hike into the Tararuas and spend three days amongst the beautiful wilderness. Celebrating the end of 2017 next to the Waiohine River and a blazing camp fire.

Cone Hut - Tutuwai Hut
290817 - 011017.
41km hike into the Tarauras over three days for a wet, muddy challenging journey. We spent the first night in the serviced DOC hut Tutuwai.
Day two we went further into the forest and spent a night at the second oldest hut in the Tararuas (c. 1945) Cone Hut.
Day three was a 8 hour hike all the way back down the valley to the carpark. Pizza was we deserved at home.
Marchant Track - Tararua Forest
260817 - 17.9km hike up to 1030m above sea level...was a grueling climb but worth the views.
060817 - Wet and windy, lots of mud. And lots of 1080 to dodge. But despite all of this it was a relatively easy hike. Four hours return over an incline of 400 meters.
Whakanui Track - Views over Wainuiomata
WJC Sutherlands trip
300717 - several weeks of storms had destroyed much of the track leading to Sutherlands hut. We only managed to get less than half way in before turning around. In the end it was a sunny lunch on the beach, and a cruisey Sunday drive.
Filling the freezer.
First Deer shot me. Colin's was around 180-200m, and mine was 300m. Both were great shots, clean kills. Good day.
